Brain Dead and Flash Art x Mike Kelley

(Tue, Feb 27, 24)

Widely considered one of the most influential artists of our time, Mike Kelley (b. Detroit, 1954, d. Los Angeles, 2012) subverted the hierarchies between high and low culture for the entirety of his life, elevating everyday objects to large-scale installations, intricate sculptures, and performative works that questioned and dismantled Western conceptions of contemporary art and culture.

A prolific practitioner and a pioneering fixture of the Los Angeles art scene, Kelley worked across a vast range of media and forms, incorporating the tropes of subcultures, Americana, death, sexuality, and the uncanny—themes that influenced his practice and have surfaced throughout his body of work in an eclectic and multifaceted formalization.

On the occasion of Felix Art Fair in Los Angeles, Brain Dead has teamed up with Flash Art and the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts to create a special capsule collection featuring a curated selection of Kelley’s artworks. The collaborative capsule will be available on March 5th at 10 AM PT at Dover Street Market LA, on wearebraindead.com, and all Brain Dead locations.
